Climbing tips for the Zugspitze

Via ferratas in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena

Please inform yourself about the opening status of the via ferratas and the winter closures in our interactive map.
There you can select the respective via ferrata.

The desire to experience that special thrill while hanging on a vertical rock face can be fulfilled on the four via ferratas in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena. Steps, iron ladders and steel ropes in various levels of difficulty secure the way on natural rock. By the way, the Italian word “via ferrata” literally translates to “iron path”.

Via ferratas come in levels of difficulty from A to E, and they allow climbing newbies to explore alpine terrain even without much climbing experience. Regardless of the level of difficulty of the via ferrata, professional equipment is mandatory. This equipment includes a climbing harness, a helmet and a via ferrata set with shock absorbers as well as gloves and appropriate footwear.

Important information: Climbing at the “Steinbruch” in Ehrwald (railroad tracks) is currently prohibited. You must not go climbing there! We will communicate any changes to this regulation.
