From close-by or from far-away countries, by car, bus, train or plane: The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena can easily be reached by any means of transport and from any direction. Once arrived, you can easily stay mobile thanks to the public transport in the region.

Travelling by train

Take advantage of the excellent train connections in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena and travel completely relaxed. 
With the ÖBB nightjet to the snow, and the ÖBB nightjet to the mountains you even have the option for a comfortable overnight travel.

The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena can be reached by train from Germany via Reutte and Kempten im Allgäu. This route can be reached by train from Stuttgart. The region can also be reached by train from Germany via Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Garmisch-Partenkirchen is connected to Munich and Innsbruck by train. Munich and Stuttgart can be reached by train from northern Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. Munich can also be reached by train from other parts of Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Innsbruck can also be reached by train from other parts of Austria (including the neighboring state of Vorarlberg), Italy, Switzerland and France.

The ÖBB Nightjets - in summer & winter

The ÖBB Nightjets, the night trains of the Austrian Federal Railways, offers a comfortable overnight journey. It takes you directly to Innsbruck and a shuttle to your chosen accommodation in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena.

The regional train  runs daily from Innsbruck (AT) via Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) (connection to trains to/from Munich) and Reutte (AT) to Pfronten (GER) - and also stops at the stations in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena (Ehrwald, Lermoos, Lähn near Bichlbach, Bichlbach-Berwang, Bichlbach Almkopfbahn and Heiterwang).

 Deutschlandticket

With the Deutschlandticket Passengers can travel from Pfronten (GER) via Reutte (AT) to the six stations in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena (Ehrwald, Lermoos, Lähn bei Bichlbach, Bichlbach-Berwang, Bichlbach Almkopfbahn and Heiterwang) and back.
With this ticket you can travel also from Munich via Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) and Griesen (GER) to the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena.

Important information:

Travelling by bus

The Flixbus inter-city coach offers daily connections  to the German side of the Zugspitze – for instance, to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Further connections are offered to Kempten and Füssen.

Travelling by (e-) car

For a toll-free journey from Germany to the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena, you can choose between two routes: A7 motorway (Ulm – Füssen) or A95 motorway (Munich – Garmisch-Partenkirchen) 

Good to know: The approximate duration from various destinations are … 

  • Innsbruck: 60 minutes (75 kilometres)
  • Munich: 1.5 hours (110 kilometres) 
  • Stuttgart: 2.5 hours (250 kilometres) 
  • Merano: 2.5 hours (180 kilometres) 
  • Zurich: 3 hours (260 kilometres)

Important information for travelling by car:

Speaking from experience, Saturday tends to be the busiest travel day. This means: Plan for more time in case of possible delays or adjust your travel time if need be! 

The same applies during heavy-traffic holiday times. Current traffic reports and continuous updates on traffic jams can be found on the website of ÖAMTC.

Excursion bus

From Lermoos and Ehrwald to Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Important information:

  • Operating time: MI. 25.12.2024 up to and including FR. 14.03.2025
  • Only holiday guests with a valid Tiroler Zugspitz Arena guest card are entitled to travel free of charge.
  • This guest card must be shown when boarding.
  • Other passengers on request.

Regional train

The regional train runs daily from Innsbruck (AT) via Garmisch-Partenkirchen (GER) and Reutte (AT) to Pfronten (GER) and also stops at the six stations in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena (Ehrwald, Lermoos, Lähn bei Bichlbach, Bichlbach-Berwang, Bichlbach Almkopfbahn and Heiterwang).

Important information:

  • Unlike in Germany, the Deutschlandticket is no longer valid on local bus and train lines when alighting in Austria.
  • Overnight guests receive the guest card of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena, which allows free use of bus connections in the region (not train connections). So it's worth staying longer (you can search for and book your accommodation here).
  • The Deutschlandticket is only valid on transport to and from Germany (on certain routes), not on domestic transport within Austria.
Regio-Ticket Werdenfels (+ Innsbruck)

From Reutte to Munich and back again - comfortably and completely "traffic jam-free". The Werdenfelsbahn of DB Regio Bayern makes it possible. The Regio-Ticket Werdenfels costs 26.00 euros for the first person, each additional person travels for 10.00 euros. The tickets are valid for up to 5 people.

Tip: For just 6.00 euros more, i.e. from 32.00 euros, holidaymakers can travel from the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena to Innsbruck. In addition, up to 3 children aged between 6 and under 15 travel free of charge - ideal for a day trip with up to 5 people.
