Geological hiking trail
The Eibsee is certainly one of the most beautiful lakes in Upper Bavaria. Its location at almost 1,000 m.a.s.l. at the foot of the mighty north face of the Zugspitze is unique. This hike takes you on the most direct route from Grainau up to the Eibsee, the fifth district of the Zugspitz village. The hike first leads through the Baderseewald. Later you will reach the Eibsee on forest paths that lead you past the mossy and overgrown boulders. These are the result of a landslide that gave the landscape of Grainau its present
landscape of Grainau its current face.
Wegverlauf:
Vom Startpunkt am Kurhaus gehst Du zur Waxensteinstraße und überquerst sie am Minigolfplatz. Hier nimmst Du den Fußweg Richtung Rosensee. Ein kurzer leichter Anstieg bringt Dich durch den Baderseewald zum Badersee. An der Westseite des Sees führt kurz nach dem Bootsanleger des Hotels ein Fußweg im Wald Richtung Eibsee. Es geht kurz bergan bevor der Weg dann fast eben verläuft. Beim Verlassen des Waldes triffst Du auf das Häuschen einer Wasserreserve, das Du rechts auf einem kleinen Querweg umgehst. Hier
wanderst Du auf der Allee entlang immer leicht ansteigend bis zur Christlhütte und überquerst die Eibseestraße. Auf einem bequemen Weg geht es nun in den Lärchwald hinein. Folge dem gewundenen Weg immer im Wald hinauf zum Eibsee. Kurz vor Erreichen des Eibsees trifft der Wanderweg wieder auf die Eibseestraße, die Dich ein kurzes Stück nach rechts bergab hinunter zum See führt. Diese Wanderung ist Teil des Geologischen Wanderweges Grainau. Eine informative Broschüre dazu erhältst Du in der Tourist-Info. Als Rückweg nach Grainau empfiehlt sich die Wanderung Nr. 12 in diesem Buch, allerdings in umgekehrter Richtung.

Route:
From the starting point at the Kurhaus, walk to Waxensteinstraße and cross it at the miniature golf course. Here you take the footpath in the direction of Rosensee. A short, easy climb takes you through the Badersee forest to Badersee lake. On the west side of the lake, shortly after the hotel's jetty, a footpath leads through the forest in the direction of Eibsee. It goes briefly uphill before the path then runs almost level. When you leave the forest, you will come across the small house of a water reserve, which you bypass on the right on a small cross path. Here
you walk along the avenue always slightly ascending to the Christlhütte and cross the Eibseestraße. On a comfortable path you now enter the larch forest. Follow the winding path always in the forest up to the Eibsee. Shortly before reaching the Eibsee, the hiking trail meets the Eibseestraße again, which leads you a short way downhill to the right to the lake. This hike is part of the Geological Hiking Trail Grainau. An informative brochure is available at the tourist information office. As a way back to Grainau, we recommend hike No. 12 in this book, but in the opposite direction.
