Most people probably know that the 49-euro ticket has been valid on regional transport throughout Germany since May 2023. But who would have thought that the 49-euro ticket is also valid for journeys from Germany to the stations in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena in Austria? This makes day trips to the popular mountain lakes in the area or holidays with the whole family particularly attractive, uncomplicated and environmentally friendly.
A special feature makes that possible: the 49-euro ticket is of course valid on DB Regio trains. However, some DB Regio routes do not end at the Austrian border. They take passengers on the route from Pfronten (GER) via Reutte (AT) to the six stations Ehrwald, Lermoos, Lähn bei Bichlbach, Bichlbach-Berwang, Bichlbach Almkopfbahn and Heiterwang in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena. Trains also run from Munich via Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Griesen (GER) to Ehrwald (AT). And the 49-euro ticket is still valid until here.
So what are you waiting for? Get on the train! Off to an amazing mountain adventure! Off to the incredible Tiroler Zugspitz Arena!
Here you'll find the official information of the Deutschen Bahn.
Watch out: Unlike in Germany, the 49-euro ticket is not valid on local bus and train lines in Austria. However, overnight guests receive a guest card at the TZA, which allows free use of buses in the region. So it's worth staying longer!
The regional train runs daily from Innsbruck via Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Reutte to Pfronten - and also stops in Ehrwald and Lermoos.
The train timetable and further information on the Werdenfels (+ Innsbruck) regional train ticket can be found here under regional train connections.
