Route description:

The tour starts at the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn (alternatively use the mountain railroad). From there, turn right along the meadow path, past the BrentAlm. Continue past the Ganghofer Hütte (open on weekends), Ehrwalder Alm and the Tirolerhaus. Follow the forest road in the direction of Pestkapelle. Through a strip of forest on the Max-Klotz-Steig, past the Hochfeldern Alm to the first Joch, the trail slightly descending to the Feldernjöchl, past the turnoff to the Steinernen Hüttl, in a northeasterly direction first descending, then steeply ascending on secured trail to the Gatterl. On the Plattsteig to the Knorrhütte, over scree and snowfields in a northeasterly direction to the Zugspitzplatt and further on marked and secured trail to the Zugspitz summit (2,962m) (alternative: from Sonnalpin with the glacier cable car to the summit). Descent with the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn. This tour is only recommended for experienced, sure-footed and giddy hikers.
