Regional crafts in Tyrolean schnapps distillery
Welcome to the Schnapsbrenner in Tyrol! The family-run company not only offers regional ingredients and traditional craftsmanship, but also an opportunity to immerse yourself in the world of schnapsbrenner. Managing director Elisabeth Rosen talks about her heart.

What do you think of enzian, birdberry and hayflowers? The endless greenery of Tyrol? Wrong! At least not in the Rosen family distillery. Here it means: soft taste in the mouth, pleasure in swallowing and a warm feeling in the stomach - at least until the third glass. In 2015, Elisabeth Rosen took over the business from her father. It was always clear to her that one day she would follow in his footsteps. Having studied mechanical engineering and worked as a journalist for a few years, her path led her back to the familiar family business. "I grew up with it and saw the family business as home," she says. The family atmosphere is palpable, the guests feel at home and not only because of the fruit grower.
The art of the Tyrolean schnapps distillery
What makes the business special? At the Tyrolean Schnapsdistillery, you can not only buy or taste the liquor on site, but also make your own brandy. For the past few years, Elisabeth Rosen, with the support of her father, has been offering one- or two-day seminars, where participants can learn how the process works and even make their own liquor. The managing director adds: "So far, the courses have been a complete success. They are so well received that we can hold several a year. The participants come from South Tyrol, Tyrol and Bavaria, as well as from the north of Germany.
"Lately, it's becoming more and more popular to make your own food: it just has a special appeal to know where my food comes from and what's in it," explains the restaurateur and liquor distiller. "We also notice this with our customers, who go home after the seminars and try out what they've learned," she adds.
The offer
'At the moment we have eight spirits in our range. We don't specialise in exotic blends, but focus much more on regional notes, such as the fruity, the enzian or the birdberry,' Elisabeth Rosen emphasizes. Regionality is a big part of the family-run business: 'We only use raw materials from Tyrol and Lower Austria. The schnapps here is a high-quality product that we are really proud of. We put a lot of work and care into it and have been doing so for 30 years.'
The obstler is the best-known brand in Tyrol, explains the general manager of the schnappsbrenner. But also some of the regional specialties, such as the hay flower brand, meet its lovers in the down-to-earth, cozy ambiance of "Beim Schnappsbrenner ". In this schnapps distillery, not only residents of Tyrol, but also guests will find their favorite - and hopefully their way home.
