Biking in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena

Flo Nagele from NAGELE bike sports in Bichlbach is a bike expert and guide. He gives the ultimate tips for the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena.

What is special about the trails in your region for beginners?

Flo Nagele: For bike beginners, the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena offers many tour options with great destinations such as crystal-clear mountain lakes or cozy huts. Beginners can gain their first trail experience on the Fun Trail in Biberwier or the Mühlwald Trail in Bichlbach, which ends in rustic Kleinstockach. The Skill-Area or the Velosolutions pump track in Lermoos are recommended for trying out and practicing.

And for experienced bikers? Do you have a tip for the real cracks?

Nagele: The trails in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena are mostly natural and offer mountain biking in its purest form, without any bike park flair. The Blindseetrail on the Grubigstein is and remains a highlight. In addition to the breathtaking view of the Blindsee lake, the trail is always a lot of fun. Combined with the Barbarasteig in Biberwier or the trails on the front of the Grubigstein, you can collect plenty of vertical meters. The Lichte Trail in Bichlbach is worth a visit for all those who want to take on a technical riding challenge.

What should someone discovering the trails of the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena for the first time know about them?

Nagele: As already mentioned, the majority of our trails are natural, with roots and stones, just like real Alpine trails should be. However, this also requires a certain minimum level of riding technique. It is just as important to treat hikers with respect, especially on the shared trails, and to respect nature so that we can ride them for a long time to come. In addition to the trails, bikers will find a variety of well-signposted routes in the valley and on the mountain.

What is planned for this or next summer?

Nagele: If everything goes according to plan, two new trails will be opened next season.

When does the season start and approximately when does it end?

Nagele: The bike season in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena depends on the weather and snow conditions and usually lasts from the beginning of May to the end of October.

Is there also a trail that is suitable for families?

Nagele: This depends on the riding skills of all family members. I would start with the Fun Trail and, if they master it without any problems, switch to the Barbarsteig. Both are possible with lift assistance. A visit to the Velosolution pump track in Lermoos is also definitely recommended for families.

What tips can you give to occasional bikers who want to improve?

Nagele: For bikers who want to improve their riding technique, I recommend a private guide from the local bike schools, such as “Bikeguiding Zugspitzarena”. Professional coaching directly on the trails as well as valuable tricks and tips, tailored to your individual needs, increase riding safety and the fun of biking.

Another tip from a pro: the SAAC Bike Camp on September 18 and 19, 2021

The SAAC Bike Camp in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena shows how every biker can prevent accidents. It's all about riding technique, equipment, safety aspects, ethics and sustainability - while having fun. Registration and further information can be found here.
