It's no surprise that the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena with its mountains is a popular holiday destination for skiers and hikers. But keen cyclists will also find their dream destination here: this year, the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena was once again awarded the "Approved Bike Area" certificate in the "Tour and Trail" category. Georg Mott, who runs the bike school "Bikeguiding Zugspitzarena" in Lermoos, knows why the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is so popular with mountain bikers: "We have something to offer for all levels of difficulty, very easy, flowing trails as well as very difficult trails for demanding riders."
Route search via interactive map
The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena has a number of tours for keen mountain bikers. The various routes are marked on the summer version of the interactive map. Simply select the Cycling & Mountain biking tab and tick the Mountain bike tour box. Depending on your personal requirements and preferences, the routes can then be filtered according to difficulty. If you decide on one of the tours with a click, relevant information about the route will appear: from the starting point to the length, altitude difference and the nature of the route to the location of the end point, the map reveals all the important details.
Easy, moderately difficult, difficult: mountain bike trails for everyone
The easy "Fun Trail 883" tour, for example, is suitable for beginners. Over a distance of 1.43 kilometres, the trail leads from the Marienbergbahnen middle station to the valley station of the same name. At 1,190 metres, the starting point is of course the highest point. On the way down into the valley, you cover around 100 metres in altitude. The tour takes around 10 minutes and is also suitable for children.
If you already have mountain biking experience, you should take a closer look at the Forest Aisle freeride route (2): The 3,250 metre long flow trail starts to the right of the Grubigalm. It is equipped with many pump track elements and steep bends. The last section of the trail is particularly tricky: challenging hairpin bends await the bikers there. Of course, these can also be bypassed.
Beautiful and difficult: the Blindseetrail in the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena
The Tiroler Zugspitz Arena also has the right routes for professional mountain bikers. The Blindseetrail, for example, is one of the most beautiful and popular routes here. The mountain bike route is even one of the "5 Great Trails" in Tyrol. The view with which the cyclist is rewarded at the end is particularly marvellous: the full beauty of the Wetterstein mountain range, with the Blindsee lake at its feet. A truly breathtaking panorama! The route there begins just before the Grubigalm, where the Blindsee trail starts on the right-hand side. The route crosses streams and runs around waterfalls. After a final technically challenging section, you finally reach the Blindsee lake: "Because the trail runs directly alongside the lake, you can jump right in," recommends Mott. If that's not a perfect end to a successful mountain bike tour!
