Fjord of the Alps
Heiterwanger See

The picturesque Heiterwanger See is located in the village of Heiterwang am See. Together with nearby Plansee, to which it is connected by a 300-metre canal, it forms the second-largest body of water in Tyrol.

In summer, there is plenty to experience at Heiterwanger See: swimming, stand-up paddling, boating, fishing (with a valid permit) and relaxed walks – for example along the popular circular trail around the lake.
Boat trips are also available, offering a unique atmosphere with a touch of Scandinavian “fjord feeling”.

More information for hikers, runners and cyclists can be found in our tour portal.

Discover Heiterwanger See

The Heiterwanger See can be explored in a variety of ways – from the classic circular hike and family-friendly themed trails to the new mindfulness trail and the digital adventure trail.

Gravel bike tours also offer exciting options: the varied loop around the mountain "Daniel" is a longer ride that can be perfectly combined with a visit to nearby Plansee lake – ideal for those who want to combine nature and activity.

Boat trips on Heiterwanger See

If you want to experience the fjord-like landscape and crystal-clear waters from a unique perspective, a boat trip on the lake is a must. A cruise on one of the passenger ships is an impressive experience for visitors of all ages.

From mid-May to mid-October, the ships MS Margarethe and MS Wilhelm operate on Heiterwanger See and Plansee.

Boat trips on Heiterwanger See are included in the Z-Ticket!
