Loisach & Loisach Springs

The Loisach springs near Biberwier mark the origin of one of the region’s most well-known rivers. They were formed around 4,000 years ago by a massive rockslide at the Fernpass. Since then, water has been emerging from underground here, creating the beginning of the Loisach River.

The springs impress with their clear, shimmering water, whose colors continuously change due to algae and light conditions. This unique appearance makes the Loisach springs a popular photo spot and a place where nature can be experienced in its purest form.

From here, the Loisach flows for many kilometres through the alpine landscape. The Loisach valley bike trail is especially popular, leading from Biberwier into the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Whether enjoyed in relaxed stages or completed in a single, more athletic ride, the route combines mountain scenery, lakes, moorlands and diverse nature into a truly unique experience.

The Loisach springs can be explored both on foot and by bike. An easy walk from Biberwier leads directly to the springs and offers a relaxing nature experience.
